A mammogram should not be painful. However, you may experience some discomfort during a 3 to 5 second compression period. This compression is necessary to get a clear picture.
When should I start getting mammograms?
The Cleveland Clinic suggests that women start to get annual mammograms starting at the age of 35. Your doctor may suggest you get one earlier if a lump is detected during a breast exam.
